Remembering ‘For the Fallen’

Posted on by Frank Brinkley

Laurence Binyon’s poem ‘For the Fallen’ was composed in August 1914, the month Britain entered the First World War. To commemorate the end of that war, four of its lines are recited each November at the Cenotaph and at thousands of war memorials across Britain and the Commonwealth: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:/Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
